Gaussian Random Number Generator
Generate values following an approximate normal distribution with a selected mean and standard deviation. Processing takes place locally in your browser.
Start using
Gaussian Random Number Generator
The generator accepts a finite mean, a non-negative standard deviation, a result count from 1 to 10,000 and a decimal-place setting displayed from 0 to 12. Defaults are mean 0, standard deviation 1, count 100 and 5 decimals.
It uses the Box-Muller transform: two browser-generated uniform values produce a standard-normal sample, which is multiplied by the selected standard deviation and shifted by the mean. The underlying uniform values come from crypto.getRandomValues.
With mean 100 and standard deviation 15, most results in a large sample should cluster near 100, but any short run can have a visibly different sample mean and may include values several standard deviations away.
A standard deviation of 0 is accepted and returns the mean for every row, formatted to the selected decimal places. Output rounding affects only the displayed strings and may create duplicate displayed values.
Results are generated locally and are not reproducible because the page has no seed. The tool returns samples only; it does not draw a histogram, run a normality test, calculate confidence intervals or guarantee bounds around the distribution.
Results are plain text, one number per line, using a decimal point. Copy all copies the rounded strings; there is no file-download control or retained full-precision dataset. Clear removes only results and retains settings. Repeated values or sequences are possible, especially when σ=0; having no seed means you cannot request reproducible random runs, not that every result is unique.
A generated value exceeded the finite numeric range. Reduce the mean or standard deviation.
