Color Inverter

Invert one opaque colour by subtracting each RGB channel from 255, then preview and copy the result. Processing takes place locally in your browser.

What the Color Inverter does

The tool inverts each 8-bit RGB channel of one opaque color and displays the result. Every channel becomes 255 minus its original value. The default source #22A06B therefore produces #DD5F94.

Worked example

Input

#336699

Result

#CC9966

Applying the same inversion a second time restores the original color.

How to use the result

  • Choose a color with the picker or enter a valid HEX, RGB, HSV or HSL value.
  • Invert it and inspect the source and output previews.
  • Copy the generated value in the format required by your stylesheet or design file.

Calculation and limitations

  • Channel inversion is not the same as rotating HSL hue by 180 degrees; lightness and saturation can change.
  • An inverted color is not guaranteed to meet WCAG contrast requirements against the original.
  • Rounded conversions between HSL, HSV and integer RGB channels can differ by one channel unit.
  • This tool transforms one opaque color value, not every pixel in an uploaded image.

Frequently asked questions

Why can a converted value differ slightly?

HEX and RGB use integer channels, while HSL and HSV conversions often require rounded decimal values.

Does inversion always create high contrast?

No. Test the actual foreground and background pair with a contrast checker instead of assuming that opposite channel values are accessible.

Can this invert an entire image?

No. Use the separate image inversion tool when you need to transform all pixels in an image.

Only one opaque colour is processed: each RGB channel becomes 255 minus its source value. #336699 becomes #CC9966. A manually edited result need not remain the inverse; regenerate to restore the calculation from the source. Nonopaque inputs are rejected and the colour field returns to its last valid value. There is no image upload, image download or automatic WCAG check.

Set the source colour with the HEX, RGB, HSV or HSL fields, then generate its RGB inverse. Copy the current result or edit its linked fields. Generate again always uses the source; to invert twice, paste the first result into the source panel first.
