Online Standard Deviation Calculator

Calculate the mean, population standard deviation and sample standard deviation of a list of finite numbers.

Population standard deviation is the square root of the sum of squared deviations divided by n; sample standard deviation uses n−1 under that square root. A single value has population deviation 0, while sample deviation is undefined.

Ordinary results use five decimal places and the page’s decimal symbols. Nonzero values with absolute value smaller than 0.000005 use scientific notation with up to six significant digits. Scaled computation and compensated summation reduce rounding errors, but JavaScript binary64 inputs and results remain approximate; the display does not guarantee exact decimal arithmetic.

Calculation runs in the browser. The limits are 100000 UTF-16 code units and 10000 values, whichever is reached first. Any incomplete token, text, non-finite number or nonzero input rounded to zero rejects the whole list. A result outside the finite numeric range is also rejected.
