Convert up to 500,000 UTF-16 code units among literal text, JavaScript-style backslash-u escapes, U+ code-point notation and hexadecimal HTML numeric character references.

In escape mode, 👋 becomes \uD83D\uDC4B, two UTF-16 code units. In code-point mode it becomes U+1F44B, one Unicode code point. This tool neither normalizes Unicode nor converts UTF-8 bytes.

Decoding recognizes backslash-u braces, the full hexadecimal sequence after U+ or u+ and four-digit backslash-u units. HTML decoding recognizes decimal and hexadecimal numeric references only.

Named HTML entities such as amp are not decoded, and ordinary ampersands or unsupported escape styles remain unchanged. Invalid code points are reported instead of silently replaced.

Conversion is local and does not normalize Unicode, change encodings of files, detect mojibake or guarantee that a chosen font can display every resulting character.

How to use

Enter or paste the source text. Choose a conversion direction: text to backslash-u escapes, Unicode notation to text, text to U+ code points, text to hexadecimal HTML numeric references, or numeric HTML references to text.
Start the conversion, inspect the result, then copy it. For example, A✓ in code-point mode gives U+0041 U+2713. This tool has no file upload or download control.

The input limit is 500,000 UTF-16 code units; some symbols use more than one unit.

Decoding replaces matching notation in place and preserves ordinary spaces, including separators in a U+ list. Decoded results containing unpaired UTF-16 surrogates are rejected; keep those units in their original escaped form.
