Resize Image Online

Resize one image in pixels or percent, optionally preserve its aspect ratio, and download a PNG. Processing takes place locally in your browser.

What Resize Image Online does

Resize an image by exact pixels or percentage, preserve its aspect ratio and download the processed result without sending the image to an application server.

Worked example

Input

2400 × 1600 image resized to 1200 px wide with aspect ratio locked

Result

1200 × 800 output

How the result is produced

The browser decodes the image, draws it to a canvas at the requested dimensions and creates a new downloadable file. Reducing dimensions discards pixels; enlarging estimates new pixels and cannot recreate missing detail.

Useful workflows

  • Prepare article and product images for the web
  • Create a smaller email or document attachment
  • Match a required pixel dimension while avoiding distortion

Important limits

  • Upscaling increases dimensions but not real detail.
  • Very large images can exceed available mobile memory.
  • Metadata and color-profile handling can differ between browser export formats.

Frequently asked questions

Should I resize by pixels or percentage?

Use pixels when a platform specifies exact dimensions; use percentage for a quick proportional reduction.

Why does my file size not fall by the same percentage?

File size also depends on format, compression, image complexity and metadata—not only width and height.

Can enlarging an image restore missing detail?

No. Upscaling estimates new pixels and can smooth edges, but it cannot reconstruct detail that was not present in the source.

Load one image, choose pixels or percent, then select both dimensions, width only or height only. Width-only and height-only always preserve the original proportions. With both dimensions and the ratio lock enabled, width determines height.

Input limit: 25 MiB and 24 million decoded pixels. Output: at most 10000 pixels per side and 24 million pixels in total. Proportional dimensions exceeding a side limit are rejected; unlocked independent dimensions retain per-side clamping. Rounding and a minimum of one pixel can slightly change the ratio. PNG re-encoding can remove metadata and animation.
