Image Vignette Tool

Add centered dark edges to an image in your browser. Adjust range and intensity, preview the result and download a PNG.

How the centered vignette works

The effect multiplies RGB channels by a darkening factor determined by distance from the center. Horizontal and vertical distances are normalized separately, so the effect follows the image proportions. It has no movable center, custom vignette color, selective mask or lens-profile correction.

Range and intensity

Range moves the start of the fade outward. Increasing it also narrows the transition in normalized-distance terms; it is not a separate feather control. Intensity controls the multiplication: zero keeps decoded RGB values unchanged, while higher values darken the affected pixels. Even intensity 100 does not guarantee that every edge pixel becomes black; image dimensions, pixel-center positions and Range also matter.

Pixel positions and output

The calculation uses pixel centers (x+0.5,y+0.5). The RGB operation leaves alpha unchanged, but browser decoding and canvas transport still determine actual output pixels. Every generation starts from the retained source, rather than applying the effect repeatedly to the previous result.

Download and limits

The output is one still PNG with the source dimensions and -vignette.png at the end of the filename. It does not preserve animation or promise exact original file bytes, metadata or color profiles. A zero-intensity regeneration retrieves decoded RGB values, not the original file. Keep the source and inspect faces and corner detail before downloading.
