What the counts mean
Characters are Unicode grapheme clusters, including whitespace and line breaks. For example, 👩💻 and é each count as one character, even though each contains multiple code points. Characters without whitespace excludes clusters made entirely of whitespace.
Words use the browser’s language-aware word segmentation and include word-like numbers. Results for languages without spaces can differ between browser versions or other counters. Sentences are estimates, not a grammar check. Lines follow actual line breaks rather than visual wrapping; a trailing line break adds an empty line. Blank lines separate paragraphs. An empty input has zero counts.
The 500,000-unit input budget uses UTF-16 code units, not bytes or the displayed character count. Download a plain-text statistics report; exporting the original text with formatting is not supported.
